This year's S.M.I.L.E. (Formerly Phoenix) workshop is being held in a wonderful location on Lake Erie in the town of Angola New York, Camp Pioneer and Retreat Center. Families are at the heart of Pioneer, that's why we have a summer planned to serve all family types and sizes giving you an opportunity to take a vacation with a purpose. Camp Pioneer and Retreat Center has many opportunities for families and individuals to enjoy. Come and learn more about your Art MINISTRY or learn a new one! Make this a vacation your family will never forget!
There are shuffleboard courts, tennis courts, basketball courts and a volleyball court. There is a beach for swimming (we will have a staff lifeguard), paddle boats, canoes, and sailboats.
Camp Pioneer and Retreat Center is located thirty minutes south of Buffalo, less than an hour from breathtaking Niagara Falls. Set on sixty-five wooded acres on the shore of Lake Erie, Pioneer has an array of facilities and accommodations to suit our needs.
Dallman Hall is our assembly place and is located near housing accommodations and has a capacity of 200. Dallman Hall has a large paneled meeting room with a fireplace, a recreation room featuring a deluxe pool table, and commercial size kitchen (which we will stock with munchies, fruit and cold beverages and ice cream)
All facilities are handicap accessible. All walkways are paved so walking and maneuvering wheelchairs is made easy.
We will have the use of Wendt Shelter an octagon-shaped, seventy feet in diameter building, which is partially enclosed, helping to keep it comfortable in windy or rainy weather. The shelter overlooks the Lake Erie shore.
We will also have the use of an outdoor chapel. This wooded chapel is a beautiful place, large enough for all of us to gather for worship services. The chapel has a beautiful backdrop consisting of trees, shrubs, and the lake (especially for watching sunsets or stargazing.)
Classes will be held indoors and outdoors. There is a beautiful wooden floor in the Dallman Hall for dance. On the lower level there is a huge room we can use for making puppets. The cabin common rooms can be used for learning to make balloons from the beginning to the most advanced or a variety of classes. The beach or the woods or the outdoors can be use for juggling, mime, storytelling or clowning.
Participants will be housed in Schroeder Circle cabins. Each cabin has six bedrooms, and two full bathrooms including showers. A common entrance room has tables and chairs.
